Opera Anywhere presents a cutting edge modern English production of Mozart’s DON GIOVANNI. Translation by Anna Pelly
The brand new translation / adaptation is in modern “street” English, this may shock, but it is a genuine means to introduce Classical Opera to a whole new audience, particularly appealing to young people currently in education and to companies considering new ways of offering corporate entertainment.
Opera is often staged in modern dress, this production goes further by updating the story and rewriting the language into modern day speech. The context is updated so that behaviour and relationships, which were valid in the 18th Century, become believable and comprehensible in the contrasting society of today.
Workshops based on our new production can be devised and tailored to suit the specific requirements of organisations and educational establishments and can be a simple two hour ‘taster’ or a complete course.
We aim to familiarise a genre which, for many people, is seen as inaccessible and alien and to open it up to the widest possible audience, by establishing characters the audience can relate to, familiar language, wit, word play, humour, sex and racy action. In this way there are greater possibilities for opera to attract audiences more familiar with film and television than Classical music.
Opera Anywhere is actively pursuing organisations that would like to present an opera production at their festival or event, if you are interested please call for your personal invitation to our Don Giovanni showcase.
